Feature for February 7, 2014 –  Question: If you could read a book for the “first time” again, which book would it be? Why?

Julie Review AvatarJulie:

withallmysoul-tile I think the book I would want to read for the first time again would be With All My Soul (Soul Screamers, #7) by Rachel Vincent. It is the final book in my favorite YA paranormal series so reading it was bittersweet. I love the characters (*sigh* Tod) and the plot was just epic. The thumbnail image links to my review.

Rose review avatarRose:

Hands down, I would want to read The Bronze Horseman again. I can not explain The-Bronze-Horsemanenough how this book changed my outlook on life and love and relationships. I literally ended a relationship because of this book. haha but that was a GOOD thing. I can remember at this one awesome part in the book, I just sighed and was like, yes! THAT is what love should be like. And of course I knew what I had in my then current relationship was NOT love. So I ended it. While this book may not be the best written or the best example of a healthy or even realistic relationship, it did get me hoping and dreaming and living life again. Every time I reread this book, I get lost in the story. Its so beautiful and so tragic and so AHHHH! just read it already. I would give anything to go back and read it again for the very magical first time.

  1. Julie – I love that series too but I stopped at book 2 coz our library doesn’t have the rest of the series. Bummer!

Rose – OMG! That book is one of my all time faves! So that one ended in a whatever ending and for maybe a year I wasn’t aware that Summer Garden exists! So for that time I was carrying this mild heartache in my heart for the MCs.

I did the same thing! It is like no one has ever heard of these books or talks much about The Bronze Horseman, so when I first read it, I did not realize there were three more books. Glad to meet a fellow “Shura” fan!

Lacie, it is a great book. Not sure if you like historical fiction, but if you do, give it a go. If you end up liking it, comment back and let me know!

I love end-of-series books. Maybe because I love having closure? Anyway, I haven’t read Soul Screamers but I do love paranormal YA, so I’ll have to add it to my list.

Interesting that you love the end of series books… I usually like the first book the most and the last book the least. Perhaps that is because I am just sad when a series ends?

  3. I actually haven’t heard of either of these books before, though now I’m intrigued and I’ll need to find out more. I like that you both came up with a really unique re-experience choice. Thanks for sharing! New follower via bloglovin’

Thanks Jenn. I have heard Julie talk enough about the Soul Screamer Series that I am thinking I might need to give it a try… sigh… so many books, so little time.

So true Lexxie. Sometimes I like a book more or less based on where I am in real life at that time. Sometimes I am in a position to better appreciate a book than at other times. We do not read books in a vacuum. Whatever is going on around us directly affects how we relate to a book at any given point in time.
