Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

I read Let’s Talk about Body Boundaries first and then gave it to my son to read, so we can discuss it. I’ll start by saying this book and topic are a must for all families. Body boundaries and body safety are so important to teach to little ones early.

I liked how the book brings up the topic of boundaries clearly and simply. I really enjoyed the solutions and ideas brought up – like the palm crew of the people we trust the most, and how to tell others to respect your boundaries.

My son enjoyed the book but felt uncomfortable about a few sections. This was great – it was a way to remind him if these things make you uncomfortable then you already know these are your body boundaries and you are already keeping yourself safe.

This book is very visually pleasing. The illustrations were stunning – very detailed and colorful. The characters drawn are diverse and lovely. Very much enjoyed the illustrations.

I also really wanted to participate in this book review because the author is a fellow Ukrainian. Looking forward to seeing this book be enjoyed in the US market.

Author Interview

At what point did you decide to be an author and what was your path to publication?

My aspiration to become an author emerged after the birth of my first child. Delving into various parenting books, I discovered a gap in children’s literature, particularly in themes related to emotional intelligence. As someone born and raised in Ukraine, my writing journey involved countless hours of writing, revising, and collaboration with editors to ensure my ideas were communicated accurately and effectively. A significant turning point was the violation of Ukraine’s borders. This challenging period in my country’s history became a driving force, compelling me to assert my voice. It highlighted that Ukrainians, with our enlightened and culturally rich background, offer a contemporary worldview that’s deeply rooted in our vibrant culture and identity. It was important for me to showcase this perspective, not only as a writer but as a proud Ukrainian, aiming to contribute to the global literary landscape with our unique and resilient spirit.

What do you do when a new idea jumps out at you while you’re still working on a book?

When a new idea springs to mind, I make sure to jot it down immediately, preserving the inspiration. However, I stay focused on my current project to maintain momentum and consistency. I view these new ideas as seeds for future projects, which I can cultivate and explore once my current book is complete.

Who is your favorite character to write, and why is that person your favorite?

My favorite character to write is Chloe, a curious little girl full of wonder and questions about the world around her. Her innocence and unbridled curiosity embody the essence of childhood. Writing about Chloe’s adventures and discoveries allows me to explore the world through a child’s eyes, which is both refreshing and enlightening.

Describe the book in 10 words or less for people who are just learning about it.

Exploring children’s emotional and physical boundaries with respect and empathy.

Is there anything you would like people to take away from your book?

I hope readers recognize the importance of understanding and respecting both emotional and physical boundaries. It’s crucial for children to learn about their personal boundaries and how to express them healthily, as well as acknowledging and respecting others’ boundaries. I aim for my book to foster a generation that is emotionally aware and respectful.

What has been the toughest criticism you have received as an author? What has been the best compliment?

One of the criticisms I’ve faced was that some parts of my book might be too complex for young readers. This feedback really made me think about how to make complex ideas more accessible to children. On the flip side, the best compliment I’ve received was from parents who told me that my book helped them explain important topics to their kids in a way they could easily understand. That meant a lot to me, as it’s exactly what I aimed to achieve with my writing. Also, a particularly special moment was when my son playfully said that my face could one day appear on Ukrainian currency, a high honor in our country traditionally reserved for renowned writers. His words were particularly special and heartening.

Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How do you deal with it?

Yes, I experience writer’s block, especially as I navigate the challenges of building a reputation and earning trust as a newcomer in the literary world. The pressure of obtaining reviews and feedback can sometimes lead to doubt. To manage this, I allow myself periods of rest and reflection, taking time away to recharge my creative energies. Embracing these breaks helps me return to my work with renewed passion and a fresh perspective. Additionally, ongoing encouragement from my family and readers, who remind me of the value and impact of my work, plays a crucial role in navigating through these times. Their support is a constant source of motivation and inspiration for me as a young author.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing, I love spending time with my large family, enjoying nature walks, and reading. These activities not only help me relax but also inspire new ideas for my books. And of course, being human, I love to indulge in good food! I also frequent the gym and dedicate a lot of time to learning, which helps me maintain a balance in life and stay in good physical and emotional shape.
