Goals/Resolutions for 2014 – September Update

Rose review avatar   Rose’s List of 2014 New Year’s Resolutions/Goals:

To be fair, only a few of my resolutions are book related. Here they are in no particular order:

  1.   Walk Maddox at least once a day, every day. For those who do not know, Maddox is my 1 year of Doberman puppy. To say he is full of energy is an understatement.  I have taken him for an off leash walk around our walking trails in our community. It takes about 45 minutes. I come back exhausted. He comes back spritely and with an exuberant spring in his step. So yes, I am also considering a treadmill for my doggy. He needs more exercise than one 45 minute run can give him. So this goal is one that I can honestly say I kept this month. I have walked Mad Man at least once everyday. He LOVES the treadmill. In fact, I cannot walk on it without him crying to be let on. We went for a walk around the block the other day and I was super impressed with Maddox. He has been attacked by other dogs. For some reason, no other dogs really like him. I think he scares them since he is so big and black and had erect ears and a nub for a tale that hardly ever wags. Well, someone had let their gold retriever run loose and this dog ran up to Maddox. I was so frightened. I mean, since Maddox has been attacked, he is now super dog reactive. Maddox spun around on his leash and squared of with Goldie. Goldie curled his lip, showing gleaming canines. Maddox puffed out his chest and stomped his left front paw. Goldie tucked tail and sprinted away. Maddox looked back at me with a silly grin on his face, tongue lolling out the one side of his mouth as if to say, “Did you see that, Mom! I made him run! Did you see!??? huh! Mom!” I saw. I was proud. Maddox never once growled, snarled or charged. Good puppy.
  2.   Ride Kissy (my horse) at least 10 hours/month.  I did a 30 hours in 30 days challenge last June and the difference in my horse was astounding. I would love to ride that often all the time, but the shorter days are really a drag on my time. (Although the arena has lights, so perhaps the shorter days is a poor excuse.) The biggest hardship with riding my horse is the long congested commute. It takes usually a little over an hour to get to the horse barn. Since I get home at 5 and want to be in bed by no later than 10, that is pushing it. I have not met this goal at all…still! I really have no excuses except for my torn shoulder is still aching daily and school has taken up a lot of my time.
  3.   Speaking of bed, I am making my bedtime of 10pm a priority. In fact, I really want to make my bedtime 9 since I get up at 5 and that way I could get 8 hours. We shall see. Right now I am setting 10pm as my bedtime and well, its 10:14pm as I type this so go figure.  I completely ignore this one! I WANT to get more sleep, but if I sleep as much as most people require, I would never accomplish everything I need to do.
  4.   Give up the soda. I am one of those people that has to drink a coke every morning. It is my morning coffee. Well, this past year has seen me gain over 20 pounds, so I am definitely going to be cutting back on the soda.  I do not know if I can ever give it up completely, but right now I am weaning off of it. This i have been successful at! I have not had a soft drink in over two months!
  5.   Working out more and getting into better shape. I mentioned walking the dog and walking on the treadmill, right?
  6.   Finish writing 2 books. Self-publish 2 books? Because I could say that I would do just one. Lets add more work on there.   This is just depressing.
  7.   Improve my Netgalley ratio. Doesn’t every blogger have this goal?  I think this is a great goal… FOR NEXT YEAR! Seriously, I want to do some kind of read the books you already own challenge for next year. I could add netgalley to this challenge as well… I mean, add netgalley, as in add it to the challenge. I will NOT be adding anymore books to my netgalley account…for a while anyways…
  8.   Read 50 new books this year. Scaling it back a little from last years goal of 100. That was tough!  Right on track!
  9.   Get my home library organized and on my goodreads shelves. I am doing this with hopes of preventing duplicate purchases. I just get so excited when I see a book on sale for $1.99 that I immediately click! I do not want to miss out on such a steal, right? But then it turns out that I usually already have at least two copies of the same book….go figure!  I did get my library straightened up some, then I messed it up some. Then I straightened it up some, then I messed it up some….
  10. Use night time moisturizing eye cream. Because you can have silver hair, but no one likes wrinkles around the eyes. Or at least that is what I have been told. I really just want to avoid dying my hair, so I am holding off as long as possible… lol. So I choose to focus on my eyes right now and the hair can go hang. er something… …Hey I am doing good to make it to bed at night. The past two night I have fallen asleep on the bathroom floor and no alcohol was involved. Eye cream!? Puhleeeze!

Rose I think your challenge idea is a really good one!
Also, Maddox is too cute with wanting to be on the treadmill and scaring away the mean Goldie just with his looks. That’s a good boy.

    • I’m excited about the challenge idea, Rose and Julie!

Since I came back from vacation unless I’m watching TV or working on my laptop sitting still for 15 minutes makes me sleepy. I think I’m coming down with something and my body, of course, thinks, sleep is the best way to tackle it. All I wanna do is read for 20 minutes and stay awake the whole time.

yeah, I SHOULD be in bed by 10 because otherwise, I function, just not at optimal performance levels… it sucks to be tired all the time.

Did you see this, Terri? Brandee is interested in our challenge idea… Brandee, I think it would be great to be able to say, yeah, I read all of these books… and then point to a shelf… sigh… dreams… and Netgalley is just brutal. I fight so hard to read and review books for netgalley and then my stats fall yet again when I sign on and start clicking requests on every interesting title I see listed.
