Emma leaves Weslyn and everyone in it behind to attend Stanford University, just as she always intended. A shell of her former self, she is not the same girl. She is broken, and the only way that she’ll be whole again is through forgiveness. Emma must find a way to forgive herself and recognize her own worth before she can receive the love she deserves. This final installment will have readers holding their breath until the very last page.

Every breath I breathe is because of you…

The only bad thing I can possibly say about the final installment in the Breathing Trilogy by Rebecca Donovan is that it ends. I love this book. I love that the conclusion to Emma’s story is not all neat and tidy. Both Emma and Evan are damaged and desperate to heal. Their love is so palpable, but still so heartbreaking.  They love each other, but it is often the ones we love the most that we hurt the most.

Emma has gone through so much in her young life and unfortunately, author Rebecca Donovan is not through torturing her. Emma’s physically survived everything life had to throw at her. Now she struggles with surviving the psychological and emotional trauma. In this book we get a frequent POV change from Emma to Evan’s perspective. The POV changes were unique in the way they were handled. They are not chapter by chapter. Although difficult to pull off, I felt the author did a perfect job of showing the reader exactly how the main characters were feeling. Also, constantly switching back and forth between POVs at the end of the book helped to gently push me back out of the character’s heads while giving me the closure I required to be able to walk away from this story, satisfied.

Yes the third book delivers even more angst, love triangles, and drama than you can shake a stick at, but it works! I was constantly like, oh no he/she/they didn’t! But Rebecca Donovan spared no emotional turmoil for this reader.  Despite every moment being gut wrenching, I could NOT put this book down. I just had to know how it ended! So the big question all readers want to know (especially after how book two ended): Do we get our HEA? All I will say is Rebecca Donovan had me guessing all the way up until the breathtaking ending. Also, I will say that after reading this series straight through three times, I am completely okay with walking away from this last book, leaving Emma and Evan right where this book leaves them.emma and evan this one is the one

  1. So, you’re all gushy about this series so I want to read it, but it isn’t my usual type of read so I wonder if I’ll like it. I don’t want to not like something that you love so much. Dilemma.
