Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium.  Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident. Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

Spell Bound is a great ending to the Hex Hall series. Sophie is even more kick ass and brave than before, and still her awkward sarcastic self. She has to overcome new struggles and deal with new magical issues. I like how she continues to learn more about her family history and learns some pretty surprising stuff.

The bond between Sophie and Archer is quite awesome, though the romance in this book isn’t as steamy as in the earlier books. I do have to say I really like Archer.

But I also really like Cal. *sigh* Cal is… so genuine and selfless. He is pure awesome and that’s all I’m gonna say about that.

I love that Sophie’s friends are so supportive and strong, literally following her to Hell and back. A good leader needs some amazing sidekicks to help with the fighting of the evil witches and I enjoy the sidekicks in this book. Jenna is just plain awesome fun vampire girl with pink in her hair, Elodie is even a good friend (in her mean girl way), and of course the love interest(s?).

Anyway I think the ending was quite epic, and tragic, and satisfying. I am curious about the spin-off novel though. Guess I may need to grab that from the library.

  1. I need to check this series out – I’ve been admiring the covers and the characters in your reviews and now that I see its just three books, why not? It’ll be much easier than some of the series I’ve tackled 🙂 I just love the concept and characters – glad you enjoyed the conclusion so much!

Yea trilogies are great for that reason. It does have one standalone spin off book which is on my tbr from the library.

Sigh for sure over Cal. I am STILL Team Cal. Maybe he an Elodie can get together! 🙂

  3. You know, I’m pretty sure I read Hex Hall – I wonder why I stopped…? I need to finish these series, because as I recall, I quite liked Sophie. You’ve written an awesome review – not giving away too much, but still making me want to dive back into the series. Great job 🙂

Hope you remember enough about it to continue the series 🙂 Sometimes if I read something and take a long break, the details in my mind are all gone. 🙂
