The climactic third novel in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series finds Vlad and his newly turned bride, Leila, at odds with each other—and vulnerable to the one vampire powerful enough to end the Dark Prince's reign . . .Play with fire, pay the priceLeila's years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn't learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin . . .Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn't like Vlad to feel fear, but he does . . . for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad's greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad's love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both . . .
Julie’s Review:
So I’m listing book 3 but I’m really reviewing books 1-3 in this awesome Night Huntress spin-off series, ok? Why? Well, I just devoured them so quickly that writing separate reviews doesn’t make sense.
I loved the Night Huntress series, and especially thought Vlad was an exciting character, so I decided to devour the spin-off series. I initially thought the Night Prince series was a trilogy, but as it turns out there are only 3 books out right now, but the series is far from ending. (Well, I hope far from.) If you’ve been following our That’s What HE Said recent posts, you saw me feature swoony or funny quotes from Mr. Vlad Tepesh himself, from each of these first 3 books.
What I really liked about this spin-off is the world is the same. The rules are the same, the characters are even the same. OMG how exciting it was to have a Cat and Bones cameo! And this time I wasn’t inside Cat’s head, what a fun way to keep reading in the world I love! The audiobook narrator is the same, and she’s excellent.
I didn’t read them in parallel with the other series, so I got a bit of a spoiler in the last Night Huntress Book about something that happens in the Night Prince series, but that was ok! It just made me want to read this series even more.
I really enjoyed getting to know Vlad better. The series starts out with Vlad all brooding and angry at the world and his normal stoic, authoritative self. We enjoy getting to see him soften because of one-of-a-kind Leila and see the romantic swoony side of him.
Also, Leila is pretty badass. She has special abilities due to touching a downed power line when she was young. So now she can electrocute people and get psychic vibes off them. This makes her a target from others wanting to use her special skills, and also someone only Vlad can be with since he is fireproof and thus electrocution-proof. Did I not mention that Vlad has the powers of pyrokinesis? I mean seriously, he’s one of my favorite characters yet! Leila continues to get herself in trouble and each book has her in a worse situation than the last. But she is stubborn, and strong, and will not be broken. It is amazing to see what she goes through to make things right and find her way back to Vlad.
If you are a fan of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance at all, do yourself a favor and read these books. I’ll wait. I’m so looking forward to the 4th book, which is supposed to come out next summer.
I don’t like when spin off series give spoilers or even plot points needed for the main series. I know that this can be hard. Patricia Briggs has the same issue. Something big happens in the Alpha and Omega series that will affect Mercy Thompson. It isn’t a spoiler, but it is a major event.

I think it was cute though in this case because it reminded me the spin off existed and made me want to read it, to see how they got to that point. It was the point in Up From The Grave when Vlad tells Cat they better get on a plane to Romania stat and then explains why. Plus the cameos are fun too.
Well, devouring them in succession of one way to keep up-to-date in a series! I’m glad you enjoyed getting to know Vlad and Leila better, Julie. As you know, I’m a fan of Vlad myself. 😉 And I’m looking forward to catching up in his series and getting to spend more time with him. *sigh*

The next book needs to be here already!
Interesting cover *wink, wink * And Vlad sounds like a character I’d like to know better. Leila as well – I need me some of that awesome power, too 🙂
