Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Unless you want me to review more children’s books here LOL I have reviewed the books I read in June. Well, one review won’t be published till early July. Fine if you insist.
Hands Are Not for Hitting is a much-needed book for us right now and it really gentle and sweet in the way it presents different uses for our hands. It reminds kids to be kind and helpful, to hold mommy’s hand when crossing the street, and to brush their teeth. And that hands are not for hitting. We read it often…
Scythe (Arc of a Scythe #1): 12/5. This book was amazing. Great characters. Even the evil ones have a point. A plot so twisty I didn’t have a clue what was going to happen next. A dystopian setting that makes me worried for the future. Do yourself a favor and read this one now!
Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe #2): I struggled with the first half of this book, not going to lie. The Thunderhead is a most disturbing character, reminding me of those lawful, neutral, chaotic charts. (He\It embodies all the squares!) The second half picks up considerably. And of course the crazy cliff-hanger at the end. And an unknown amount of time til the next book in the series.
A Court of Frost and Starlight: Let me first point out that is was more then refreshing to read a book set on Winter Solstice, including a snowball fight, while it’s hot as 1200 Suns outside. I loved this short novel showing us how Feyre, Rhysand, and the rest of the Night Court family is getting along after the end of ACOWAR. Yes, there are some physical and mental issues to work through, but they are working through them together. Hopefully, Ms. Maas will continue to provide us with snippets like this in the years to come. Plus, holy cramoly. The next book in the series looks to be about Cassian and Nesta. There is some SERIOUS sexual tension between those two in Frost and Starlight. I imagine some scorching pages to come!
Typhoon Fury: I have mixed feelings here. The action in these books continues to be great. Especially the climatic battle this time around. And I love the addition of a new female character. My issues is this: Do we really need multiple chapters with introductions and explanations? We’re on book 12. Do people really start a new series that many books in without reading the others first? This novel also felt kind of word-y, if that makes sense. I read action books for the actual action. I want more blowing stuff up.
