Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

Death Wish was a fun romp through a genre I enjoy – Urban Fantasy with reapers! YES! Jade is a reaper, working for Styx Corporation and her afterlife boss to help supernatural souls cross over. But she has her own opinions and has a really hard time just blindly pulling souls out of people.

Being a reaper and a spirit is a lonely existence, with all her human memories stripped and her only friend is a medium (the only one who can see her). She’s sent to reap the soul of half-demon Cole Masters (a gun-for-hire) but her assignment goes terribly wrong, and Jade stumbles onto a demonic hunt. Everything she has known so far is shattered. But teaming up with a sexy half-demon to find a way to lift a curse isn’t the worst thing.

I liked Jade, she’s tough and doesn’t accept things just because her supervisors tell her it is so. She finds her way, she searches for the answers, and she’s not afraid.

But she’s also special. Things keep happening to her – new powers and abilities. It kind of reminds me of another reaper urban fantasy series that is my absolute fave, so that might be why I was so into this one!

Jade is fiercely loyal to those who matter to her – like her best friend. She does what she can to help people, even if she doesn’t trust them.

The big bad in this story has a very dark purpose, trigger warnings all around.

But the ending is redeeming, and a bit feel-good. So no awful cliffys here. Another big plus to this book.

I’m super curious to see how the series progresses and what we find out about Jade’s true nature and purpose.

Harper Brooks introduces us to a fun and gritty world with interesting characters who keep you wanting to keep reading.

The narration of the audiobook was great – I enjoyed the voices and accents.  I enjoyed the pacing and the emotion.

Great read overall.
