This delightful story centers around Ellie, a curious and energetic little chick with a big to-do list. Like many kids her age, Ellie always needs her mom’s help but tends to forget the magic word: “Please.”

Through gentle reminders from her mom, Ellie learns how important it is to be polite, and by the end of the book, saying “please” becomes second nature for her.

The storyline is simple yet effective. It reflects the everyday challenges of parenting toddlers, who often need multiple reminders about manners. Ellie’s constant “I want to…” followed by Mom’s reminders created a rhythm that made the lesson about saying thank you really stick.

What I loved most was how the gentle repetition in the story mirrored real life. My toddler picked up on Ellie’s routine quickly and even started joining in just to remind Ellie to say, “Please!”

Instead of scolding, she offers kind reminders, which eventually help Ellie form a habit of gratitude. As a parent, this approach really resonated with me. It’s a lovely way to show kids (and remind us, parents) that lessons sink in best when taught with patience and love.

This isn’t the first Ellie book we’ve read. We’ve explored other titles in the series, and I have to say, the consistency in quality is impressive. Each book focuses on a simple yet important life lesson, from sharing to being kind, and Say Please, Ellie continues the trend.

It’s great to see how Ellie grows as a character while tackling everyday challenges that feel so familiar to young kids and their parents. The recurring theme of Ellie learning something new in each book makes it feel like we’re growing alongside her.

The illustrations are so consistent. They’re colorful and charming, as well as capturing Ellie’s expressions perfectly, from her frustration when she’s stuck to her joy when she finally remembers to say “please.” My little one loved pointing out all the cute details on each page, especially the playful farm animals in the background.

From a practical perspective, I also appreciate how easy this book is to integrate into daily parenting. Reading it sparked some great conversations about manners with my toddler.

Right after finishing the story, my little one even practiced using the magic word in different scenarios, like asking to turn the light off or keep the door slightly open. It’s always a bonus when a book isn’t just a one-time read but becomes part of how you teach life skills at home.

As a parent, I highly recommend Say Please, Ellie: Learning How To Say The Magic Word for teaching toddlers about manners in a way they’ll actually enjoy. Between the relatable storyline, the engaging repetition, and the gorgeous illustrations, it’s a book we’ll be reaching for again and again.
