Millie Sullivan plays a 1920s-era guest during tours of a palatial estate on the shore of St. Simons Island, Georgia, where her great-grandmother was a real guest ninety years ago. When Millie learns of a lost diary that may contain the location of a hidden treasure on the estate and reveal the identity of her great-grandfather, she sets out to find the truth of her heritage—and the fortune she desperately needs. But it won’t be easy.
When security guard Ben Thornton discovers her snooping in the estate’s private library, he threatens to have her fired. Still, her story seems too ludicrous to be fiction, and her offer to split the treasure is too tempting to pass up.

Get ready for a romantic escapade through dark halls and dusty corners that will have you holding your breath and sighing with delight.

Character Interview with Grandma Joy

From A Sparkle of Silver

by Liz Johnson

Who’s your favorite person in the world?

Zeke is the love of my life. He always will be. But he doesn’t come around much anymore. I think . . . well, I’m not sure where he is. But after him, Camilla is my best gift—even if she insists on being called Millie. After her dad ran off with her mom, we took her in. I never got to raise a daughter, but at least I’ve had the sweet joy of raising my granddaughter.

Where do you live?

For the moment? Or for forever? I have no idea about that second one, but right this minute, my things are settled in my room at Golden Isles Assisted Living. It ain’t the worst place in the world. It ain’t the best either. The wallpaper is ‘bout all that’s keeping these walls standing, but at least they’re standing. But I think something’s going on. Camilla hasn’t said anything, but that grouchy night nurse seems to think I’m not long for these hallways. Either she has an in with the good Lord and knows something I don’t, or they’re going to move me out. I wouldn’t mind moving. If it weren’t so discombobulating, that is. I don’t want to move. I hope they don’t make me.

Why do you like living on St. Simons Island?

There’s nothing quite like the smell of the water, all salty and refreshing. It reminds me of the stories my momma used to tell. And, boy howdy, did she have some tales to tell. She stayed at the Chateau on the beach that one summer. And I think she left it with a few secrets. I just don’t know what they are.

What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you?

I can’t remember exactly. But whatever it was seems to be terrible. My sweet Camilla used to smile all the time. She could wrap her Grandpa Zeke around her little finger with one smile. But now she looks worried. Her forehead is always wrinkled, and she chews on her fingernails far too often. I raised her better than that, so I know something is fretting her. I just don’t know what.

What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?

You mean, besides putting my trust in the good Lord? Taking in Camilla, of course. Have I told you about my granddaughter? She’s amazing.
