NonFiction November is hosted by a group of bookish ladies. You can join Nonfiction November here and meet the hosts.

Week 1 (10/28-11/1) Your Year in Nonfiction: Celebrate your year of nonfiction. What books have you read? What were your favorites? Have you had a favorite topic? Is there a topic you want to read about more?  What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?

Week 2 (11/4-11/8) Choosing Nonfiction: What are you looking for when you pick up a nonfiction book? Do you have a particular topic you’re attracted to? Do you have a particular writing style that works best? When you look at a nonfiction book, does the title or cover influence you? If so, share a title or cover which you find striking.

Julie Review AvatarJulie’s Nonfiction November:

So Silly me came across this tag and I thought it would be fun to join. Surely I read some nonfic this year haven’t I?
Turns out, not so much. So I decided to combine weeks 1 and 2 and skip the rest. I’m a blogger, I can do that!

In 2024 I only read 4 non fiction books. If we’re going with 12 month rolling, starting with November of last year, I have 6 total. I also have 2 in progress, meaning I started it, but set it aside to finish later, and haven’t gotten back yet.

That’s not a lot! Let’s list them!

Breaking Free: Stop Holding Back, Start Being You: Your Guide to Creating the Career & Life of Your Dreams (in Progress)

Building Simple Habits to a Healthy Me: Easy 4 pillar system, worksheets and habit tracker (in Progress)

International Bedtime Stories from History (Oct 2024)

Oldest Mom on the Playground (Oct 2024)

Impact Parenting  (Sept 2024)

The Sandra Showalter Williams Foundation Books (Self Made) (May 2024)

Let’s Talk about Body Boundaries (Dec 2023)

Find Your Unicorn Space: Reclaim Your Creative Life in a Too-Busy World (Nov 2023)

What were they? Mostly parenting/mom life self help type books. Suppose that makes it my favorite topic. I’m not big into nonfic though.

Where did I get them? Mostly review books. Only one was an audiobook that came recommended.

Why did I choose them? Because parenting and motherhood and being a working mom is hard y’all.

A favorite? Not particularly. It’s all informational, but they haven’t been one of those books I love-loved.

What topic do I want to read more about? No idea.

What do I look for in a nonfic? Well, if it’s an important parenting topic, I suppose. I don’t take many nonfic review books as you can see.

Writing style? Well I still prefer a style that is flowy and interesting. I get bored with lists of facts. I don’t like to read college textbooks, ya know?

I can’t say how the title or cover influences me, but I do judge covers. Sorrynotsorry.

But being honest I do prefer fiction. So that’s why I will stop the tag here.

And now for funsies here’s my Goodreads non fiction shelf over the years.

  1. Welp, always a day late! I would have participated for sure because I’ve read/read-with-my-ears a bunch of nonfiction this year. Maybe next year I’ll be ahead of the curve to participate. This is fun! Thanks for sharing.
