For this discussion post, we are joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week. New-to-me authors: who have you discovered in the past 12 months?

Julie Review Avatar Julie:

So this one is a loaded question because MOST authors are new to me, as a book blogger and book club girlie. I rarely read the same authors over and over (unless I am bingeing a series or catching up on my TBR). But, I can highlight some of my favorite reads over the past 12 months and the authors that brought them to me.

  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0BP67CX8Y” locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]The Unmaking of June Farrow[/easyazon_link]by Adrienne Young – (read for book club) totally new to me and such a beautiful read. I want to read her again.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0B1JPVL1F” locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]Weyward[/easyazon_link]by Emilia Hart – (read for book club) very much enjoyed the book and author’s writing, and actually am reading a second of her’s this month for book club
  • Wicked Wish by Alex Gordon – new to me, read for a book tour and really enjoyed the pacing and plot, so read the second book as part of the next book tour as well.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0D3QNT4T2″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]The Boyfriend[/easyazon_link] by Freida McFadden – (read for book club) she was new to me but well known by others and now I have a lot of her books on my Libby holds
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0CK8HCKVC” locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]Butcher & Blackbird[/easyazon_link] by Brynne Weaver – omg this book with all the triggers is soo funny and a great audio. I enjoyed the author so much that I went to listen to book 2. I still need to get the final book. I don’t know why I read this. Someone must have recommended it because it came up on my Libby holds and I went for it and am so glad I did.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0C4C63K8F” locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]What the River Knows[/easyazon_link] (Secrets of the Nile, #1) by Isabel Ibanez – (read because of book club but didn’t make the meeting) very much enjoyed this duology – the pacing, the adventures, the characters. I’ll have to keep reading her stuff.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B07M77XW56″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]The Ten Thousand Doors of January[/easyazon_link] by Alix E. Harrow – (read because of a book club but didn’t make the meeting) I found this book very unique and enjoyed the author’s style weaving adventure and secrets throughout.

Ok that’s enough – these are the highlights of new books I enjoyed by new to me authors in the past year.

LynnpicLynn:

I tend to flit around between genres and books based on my mood. And when my Libby holds become available. Here’s very random list of new to me books\authors that I’ve really loved recently.

  • [easyazon_link identifier=”0593545745″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]LOVE AT FIRST BOOK[/easyazon_link] by Jenn McKinley – makes me want to give up everything and move to Ireland. Lovely romance.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”0593815645″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]THE JEWEL OF THE ISLE[/easyazon_link] by Kerry Rea. HILARIOUS romantic comedy. HIL.AR.I.OUS.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0CL5FT5C3″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]MINISTRY OF TIME[/easyazon_link] by Kaliane Bradley. Original plot. Not as timey-whimey as expected. Excellent characters.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B09YBQR3D1″ locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY HAS KILLED SOMEONE[/easyazon_link] by Benjamin Stevenson. Amazing murder mystery series. I picked up the second one right away.
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B0CGPFP26W” locale=”US” tag=”chapbrea05-20″]THE WORST SHIP IN THE FLEET[/easyazon_link] by Skyler Ramirez. OMG. This series is awesome. Action. Adventure. Humor. Pew Pew space battles. So much sarcasm. I’ve read through the first 4 books already.

It looks like everything else I’ve read in the past year by new authors wasn’t outstanding enough to remark upon!

What about you?

  1. This is always a fun topic! Adrienne Young is an author I’ve wanted to read for a while too! The two newest to me authors I’ve read are Stephanie Garber and Mia P, Mansala. I am trying to stick to more books by authors I know I will like these days as I have a huge TBR to get through, but I also want to try some new authors when I see ones that look good.

  2. I tend to read the same authors over and over because I read a lot of books in series. I’ve also read a few new-to-me authors where I didn’t love the books, so I didn’t recommend those.
