Seeking Sasha

by: Laura Frost
Expected publication date: February 10, 2026

Blurb:For fans of The Girl on the Train, Luckiest Girl Alive, and Pieces of Her, Seeking Sasha is a twisty, emotionally charged debut about identity, survival, and the cost of reinventing yourself to outrun the past.

Sasha lives off the grid—new name, new town, same story. Haunted by a traumatic childhood and the mistakes that followed, she scrapes by with odd jobs. The only rule? Never go home. But when she runs into Cole, her childhood best friend turned cop, the persona she’s carefully crafted begins to unravel.

As Sasha and Cole rekindle their friendship, Sasha spirals—fleeing from the one person who might actually see her. What follows is a razor-edged journey across city streets, vineyards, and forest cabins, as Sasha’s fractured identities collapse under the weight of who she really is. Seeking Sasha is a poignant, suspenseful portrait of a woman on the run—from her past, from the truth, and from herself.

From Mr. Chicago to First Draft

by Laura Frost

Before the character, Sasha, was conceived, I was working on another novel—my first, in fact, which is still sitting on a shelf, waiting to be revised. Anxious to get the first draft pinned down, I headed to Jasper National Park for four days of uninterrupted writing. Days were spent gazing out at Lac Beauvert with the towering Rockies as a backdrop while my fingers flew over my keyboard, edging closer to my novel’s close. Nights were spent in the lodge, the faint strums of a folk singer’s guitar carrying me toward the final chapter.

On one of those evenings, I selected a seat at the bar and ordered a salad and cosmopolitan. The bartender was friendly and full of interesting food industry knowledge that he was keen to share. He taught me about limes and apples, and regaled me with fun facts about the three-thousand-dollar bottle of Scotch that glinted from a locked glass case. Once my food arrived, the bartender excused himself to serve other hotel guests and I opened my laptop.

That was when he sat down. I never got his name. All I know is that he was from Chicago and he was traveling with his dad. But it is this person who I have to thank for bringing Sasha into the world.

“What are you working on?” he asked. I told him I was writing a novel. He asked about the storyline and genre, and then he asked my name. I don’t know where the thought came from, but in that moment, it hit me—I could give him a fake name, and he wouldn’t bat an eye.

“I’m Laura,” I said.

“What do you do for a living?” he asked, and again, I realized I could make up a job, and he’d be none the wiser. I told him the truth.

We chatted a bit more, then he went his way and I turned back to my laptop. But as I stared at the words on the page, my conversation with Mr. Chicago would not leave me alone.

I have learned that when something tickles my brain, I should pay attention. When an idea sits in the back of my mind and whispers to me in my sleep, I should listen. So I did.

I knew that my next novel would be about a woman who does not share her real name, her job, or anything personal. I did not know why at the time, but this woman—Sasha—relied on fabricated stories about herself to get through life.

I vowed to finish the first draft of my other novel, but when that was complete, I dove into Sasha’s story with verve, and the novel wrote itself. Characters walked onto the page and introduced themselves, and I was stunned when I realized who I was going to meet in the final chapters.

Although the final version of Seeking Sasha that readers read today is different in many ways than the original draft, the bartender with his limes, apples, and Scotch, as well as Mr. Chicago, will always hold an important cameo in the book.
