WOW! WOMEN ON WRITING TOUR of
Captive Heart at Brantmar Castle
By Celeste Fenton
By Celeste Fenton
Book Summary
Two mysteries. One fight for survival. And danger closing in from both sides of the sea.
Gabby Heart travels to a remote Scottish castle with her best friend, Abe—a bestselling children’s author—expecting misty views, historic charm, and quiet time to plan their next book series. But Brantmar Castle holds more than ghosts of the past. When the women are taken hostage, Gabby must rely on her instincts, her resilience, and the help of men who may not deserve her trust to survive.
Meanwhile, on Dost Island, young residents are vanishing without a trace. As those left behind scramble for answers, unsettling clues emerge—leading to a dark motive no one could have predicted.
From the storm-swept highlands of Scotland to the rocky shores of New England, Captive Heart at Brantmar Castle blends mystery, emotional grit, simmering romance, and humor, in a story where secrets run deep… and time is running out.

Guest Post: The Frizzy Side of Murder
When you write a mystery series that blends romance, danger, and a heroine with uncontrollable hair… sometimes she insists on writing blog posts herself.
Meet Gabby Heart in The Frizzy Side of Murder—expect frizz and a few confessions about sleuthing in tight jeans and bad weather.
With trepidation,

The Frizzy Side of Murder
By Gabby Heart, amateur sleuth, artist, and reluctant magnet for mayhem
If someone had told me a year ago I’d be chasing killers, deciphering clues, and crawling through damp, moldy tunnels during a hurricane—with nothing but a dying cell phone flashlight and a prayer that my hair wouldn’t look like I’d stuck my finger in a socket—I’d have asked what they were drinking and to please share.
But here we are.
My name is Gabby Heart—artist, instructor, mother, and apparently, part-time detective with a full-time frizz problem. My hair, when it behaves, is a pretty coppery shade that I’ve been told “glows in sunlight.” When it doesn’t behave (which is 90% of the time), it expands like it’s auditioning for its own zip code. I try not to take it personally.
Still, I’m not above a little vanity. My green eyes are my one dependable feature—they don’t fog up in the rain, shrink in the heat, or require conditioner. And if you ask me, they’re perfect for giving side-eye to murderers, meddling detectives, sassy friends, and men who think I can’t handle myself.
Speaking of men… let’s talk about the chaos magnets: Rick and Jay.
Rick Payne—ex–air marshal, muscles with a mortgage, and just dangerous enough to make my common sense take coffee breaks. He’s handsome, heroic, rich, and allergic to emotional honesty. Also, his ex, Lavanda (a.k.a. Brunette Barbie, patent pending), has hair that never frizzes, which I do find personally offensive.
Then there’s Jay Laird—researcher, charmer, wordsmith, and quote-dropping menace. His eyes are a shade of blue that probably has its own Pantone number, and his eyelashes are longer than my patience. He drives me mad in equal parts with intelligence and arrogance. Naturally, I’m drawn to him like hairspray to humidity.
Both are impossible.
And apparently, irresistible.
Hell’s bells!
Then there’s Detective Rosa Morales, whose favorite hobby seems to be sighing at me. She doesn’t say much—just raises one eyebrow like she’s deciding whether to arrest me or assign me to clean the police station for community service. (Joke’s on her—I’d probably show up early and reorganize the evidence board.)
My best friend Lola has officially adopted Jay’s “Miss Marple” nickname for me—usually right before reminding me that my sleuthing skills aren’t nearly as sharp as my sweet tooth. She’s five feet of sarcasm in designer heels and can sniff out denial faster than I can sniff out a blueberry scone. (And I can find those in a blackout.)
Then there’s my other BFF, Abe—my voice of reason and frequent buzzkill—who loves to remind me, “You are not a detective.” I nod, smile, and pretend to be working on illustrations for her next children’s book… while secretly building my PowerPoint evidence board like it’s a classified FBI file.
Probably will be. Might be. Maybe.
And Anna—dear, rational, brilliant Anna—should honestly know better than to let me drag her into my “just-a-quick-look-around” adventures. She says she’s helping for “safety reasons,” but I suspect it’s to keep me from falling into another tunnel. I feel mildly guilty about that. Mildly.
Here’s the thing: being an amateur sleuth sounds glamorous until you’ve done it in tight jeans that don’t bend and boots that squeak in all the wrong places. My flashlights die at the worst times, my boobs are a logistical nightmare in tight spaces, and the closest thing I have to an alibi is usually a half-eaten cupcake.
But when the storm hits, when the clues click, when I look around and realize the people I love are safe—I forget the frizz, the guilt, and the chaos. I remember why I keep going: because truth matters, courage counts, and a good laugh can save the day.
So yes, my hair may frizz, my pants may protest, and my heart may be an emotional crime scene—but somehow, through it all, I’m still standing. Still laughing. Still solving mysteries.
And who knows—maybe one of these days, I’ll even figure out how to keep my hair smooth in a hurricane.
Until then, pass the hairspray… and maybe a donut.

Artist, amateur sleuth, and survivor of both mysteries and humidity.

About the Author, Celeste Fenton
Celeste Fenton holds an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in education and has over thirty years’ experience in higher education. Her writing is fueled by a lifelong love of mystery, a fascination with the complexities of the human heart, and just enough real-world experience to keep things interesting. A widow, mother of adult twin sons, proud grandmother, dog lover, and semi-retired professor living in Florida, she weaves imagination with insight to create stories that are both emotionally rich and laced with suspense.
When she’s not writing, reading, or plotting her next twist, she’s often off exploring small towns across America—setting out solo for month-long adventures, much to the awe (and occasional alarm) of friends and family. Her latest obsessions include escape rooms, mastering the perfect miter cut for a DIY bathroom remodel, and making the impossible decision of where to travel next.
