For this discussion post, we are joining the Book Blogger Hop topic hosted by Coffee-Addicted Writer. Here’s the topic for this week.
This week’s prompt:
How do you decide which books to highlight on your blog?
Julie:
I think I can answer this in two ways. Which books do I actually chose to read and review, and which books we do book tours for.
Book Tours: I’m a bit of a people pleaser so I won’t turn people down very often. If someone reaches out and I can’t/don’t want to read the book I will always offer a promo post with an author interview or guest post. I figure anything I can do to help get the books in front of more potential readers, then I’ve done my good deed as a book blogger. So I also sign up for a lot of book tours that don’t require reviews, because it’s easy enough to set up a post to share a book and spotlight the author.
Arc Reviews: But I have to be more picky about what I choose to read. I’ve already drowned myself in ARCs this year since starting my IG and allowing ARCs back into my life – and it will take me a long time to catch up. And I hate not following through on my agreements, even if super duper late. But as far as what I choose to read – it has to be genres I enjoy and books that seem interesting. And I have FOMO so I have a hard time saying no, as previously stated. And I’m always chasing the next high of a book that changes my life. And there have been quite a few ARCs that changed my life and brought me into a world I would have never otherwise known about.
Reviews – Individual vs Mini Roundup: I will do a full review post for ARCs/ALCs most of the time, unless my review is very short and not meaningful. Then it goes into the mini reviews post. All non individual post reviews go into the monthly mini reviews roundup post. Also if we do a buddy or book club read, Lynn and I will do one joint review post since that would have enough content to be worth an individual post over a mini review.
Lynn:
I’m in my read what I want era. I’m not actively doing any tours and very rarely request ARCs. Most of the books I read go into our mini reviews post. But yes – Julie and I will do joint reviews for books that speak to us. We do tend to read a lot of the same books. Having both of our reviews in the same post is helpful, especially if we have different opinions.
What about you?
