A broken kingdom. A broken princess. A love that can heal them both.
As the magical wards protecting her kingdom fade away, a powerless princess must train with a mysterious lord, only to learn that falling in love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
Princess Emelin Clairborne is witnessing her human kingdom of Emeraldia fade before her eyes. The wards that keep their Fae enemies out are weakening, and the farmland is withering away. With her magic stubbornly dormant, Emelin is powerless to help.
Desperate, she seeks out Adrian Gray, a mysterious lord living near the border between human and Fae. Powerful and guarded, he reluctantly agrees to train her. Her journey to harnessing her powers is long and challenging, but amid her struggles, a romance blossoms between her and the lord. As her feelings for him grow, so does her magic.
Before their budding relationship can flourish, long-buried secrets shatter the very foundation of Emelin's world. With Emeraldia on the brink of collapse, she has no choice but to wed a Fae prince to forge an alliance with their most feared enemy. Through the marriage of convenience, Emelin may secure peace and power for her people, but the cost will be her future…and her heart.
A Kingdom of Magic and Rain is a standalone cozy, spicy New Adult Romantasy with a soft, bookish FMC, a green flag MMC, and a Regency-inspired romance.

Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

When you’re looking for a green flag MMC who yearns…

A Kingdom of Magic & Rain is a sweet and cozy fantasy with some twisty betrayals and rollercoaster emotions.

Characters: Our FMC Emelin is a sweet, soft bookish girlie princess who is determined to help her kingdom and would do anything for her family. But she just can’t seem to unlock her magic, and decides on a whim to stay with a lord of a territory away from the castle to train. What can go wrong? Our MMC Adrian is a stoic, kind man who is so encouraging and supportive, and he listens to her. They both are working through heartbreak of both their respective ex-fiancés infidelities, and romance was not part of the plan.

Plot: The first maybe half of the book is the slow burn of them developing feelings for each other, while the wards are failing between the mortal kingdom and the Fae lands. But what is going on? There are so many secrets. Well, about halfway in we get some throw you upside down reveals and betrayals that kick the rest of the book into “just one more chapter” mode. I wasn’t expecting the pace of the cozy book to suddenly slap you with some plot twists! Without sharing spoilers let’s just say the rest of the book takes place in the Fae kingdom so we get to experience all the expected court intrigue with deception and betrayals, and decisions based on duty and protection of loved ones are made.

Romance: Y’all the yearning. The slow build up of their friendship and passing touches makes you want to kick your feet. They do spend some time just enjoying each other’s company in the library or the garden as their attraction grows. He even helps her rescue a hurt animal and nurse it back to health. Squeeee. Quilliam (heart eyes). Despite the betrayals and truths revealed, Adrian never falters in his affections. This is where all the yearning is so delicious.

I read this over 400 page book pretty quickly and by the end when everything gets resolved it felt like a hug. So if you’re into cozy romantasy with heartbreak and forgiveness, yearning and devotion, twists and betrayals, and especially a standalone with a HEA, this book belongs on your TBR.

And now, some quotes:

“A light doesn’t have to burn brightly to radiate warmth. As beauty doesn’t have to be loud to be exquisite.”

Excuse me I need to sit down.

“I chose you long before the Stars did. I will keep choosing you for as long as I live.”
