A town has gone dry, and the general manager of a water district is found dead, presumably a suicide. His crazed widow is in denial and recklessly loose-lipped. Texas House District 100 is again in turmoil, and the interests of the landed class against urban sprawl are at odds.
Enter John David Dothan (The Representative). The world’s hippest legislator is back, but he is a changed man. Post-stroke Dothan dons an eccentric cane and is married to his former chief of staff, Tryphena Taylor. The two lovers reside peacefully tucked away in a country cottage with their rescued cat. But they are swimming against the tide.
Caught between the past and the future, the rural and the urban, the representative is trapped in a no-win situation both politically and emotionally. When a constituent brings to his attention a mysterious ‘retention pond’ things grow increasingly murky. The waters turn completely dark when Dothan learns his forbidden first love, former State Senator Rachael Logan has been hospitalized.
Armed with only his cane and sidekick, Mason Dixon (The District Manager), who serves as his new Chief of Staff, Dothan sets aside the ambiguities of politics and love in search of clarity and righteousness. But the cost of doing the right thing might not just be his young marriage…but Tryphena’s life.

“The Representative, The District Manager, and The Water Lord are companion books but interwoven…loose sequels. It is not necessary to read them in order to follow them.” – Author Matt Minor

THE REPRESENTATIVE. Equal parts romance and political mystery, The Representative reminds us that even politicians are human.

John David Dothan is a romantic, an artist, who has lost his way. Put up as a patsy by his father-in-law, who is also his employer, Dothan the underdog unexpectedly wins a seat in the Texas Legislature. But he is more than just a patsy to his father-in-law’s business interests; he is a pawn in a ruthless political plot as well; a conspiracy that begins with a school bus bombing on the southern border.

Oddly befriended by an influential colleague, the freshman representative finds himself appointed to an august committee created to address the recent attack. Once there Dothan discovers his first love, Rachael Logan, is now a state senator and serving beside him. Soon the two become a hot political item and the public face of the committee’s contentious legislation.

But what the legislature and the public don’t know about their past relationship can not only destroy them, but the committee’s objective as well.

When Dothan’s disgraced former opponent turns up dead, things begin to unravel. But each unraveling only leads to another twist.

Tryphena Taylor, Dothan’s inexperienced but intuitive Chief of Staff, guides the Representative towards the ugly truth of power, and by doing so, his uncanny redemption.

THE DISTRICT MANAGER. “Doing the right thing means you don’t eat,”

So begins the sweltering narrative of District Manager, Mason Dixon. Mason is an unsettled man; both cynic and idealist. Outraged by injustice, he has himself suffered an injustice. But nothing can prepare him for what he is about to trip into.

After receiving an intriguing constituent call at the district office of his employer, Texas House Representative Haliburton Crane, Mason begins his fall into a malevolent conspiracy. A plot that finds him laboring to determine the connection between lavish political donations and a perverse crime ring: A network that includes not only illegal drugs, but child prostitution and vicious dog fighting.

While these events percolate, Mason, struggling with self-doubt – and still deeply in love with his wife Ann – begins to date a fellow government employee. Brenna is a single mother working through her own impossible issues. Is a future possible for the two?

When Brenna and her family are captured by the drug cartel, Mason must act – and fast; particularly when he discovers his boss is also in danger.

Former Alabama State Trooper, P.I. Rusty Stern (from The Representative) proves to be an invaluable ally. He and Mason will drop deeper and deeper into the abyss, ultimately learning that,

‘Hell is filled with the respectable.’
