Her special abilities can save lives, but so can they kill.

Rovena Silvex has hunted and eliminated dozens of demons throughout the ten years since her initiation as a hunter. Possessing supernatural skills only makes her job a lot easier.

When she’s asked to visit the county morgue to look over a deceased victim and find out what demon killed him, the body rising from the dead is the last thing she expects.

Now Rovena is stuck with a walking corpse and no answers as to how he managed to return to the world of the living. However, the victim has changed and the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes that what crossed over might not have been the soul of the dead man but something much worse.

Complications arise when her new assignment is targeted by demons hell-bent on making sure he stays dead for good.

Killing demons has always been a piece of cake. Keeping one alive however, is a whole new ballgame for her. If she fails, she risks setting in motion a war between heaven and hell. But if she succeeds, she could trap a powerful Lord in a world he doesn’t belong in, forever.

Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

Book received as part of the book tour.

I was certainly intrigued by the premise of Tale of a Body Thief because the genre is right up my alley. I enjoyed learning about the dark demon, Lakyn, who seemed not so much evil as he is stoic and determined to keep his earned high level role. I also enjoyed the fiery and feisty demon huntress, Rovena. Both are not quite as they seem and have a lot of special secrets.

When the Marked and demon murdered corpse stands up again, possessed by another, Rovena is tasked with keeping the body and demon inside safe and under their control, so the organization of demon hunters can learn more about what in the world just happened, and not let this demon do any harm to their world. But as the story progresses – and mind you this book spans about 2 days time – we get to see how this hellion isn’t really a mean guy, or is he?

The obvious attraction between huntress and hellion-in-a-human-shell will make for an interesting romance, but we didn’t get too much of it in this book. In fact, we didn’t get too much of anything in this first book, as it just kind of stops when the story line gets interesting. If you’ve read my reviews before, you know I hate cliffhangers. I love a good series, I love a bigger plotline that gets carried across the series or several books in the series, but I want my individual books to have a resolution and be able to stand alone. I even like it when after the problem of today’s story is resolved, the book brings up the next problem that will be the plot of the next installation, like a little teaser. But the book has to have a satisfying conclusion for now. And this one, well it does not.

The end of the book drops some interesting discoveries about our host body, and kind of makes me wonder similar things about our huntress with special abilities, before it ends. It leaves a question of our hellion’s intentions, though I believe he is acting the part to finally get his mission started and not be babysat by the huntress any longer. But the switch flip from being hunted by the other demons to being part of their group at the end kind of comes abruptly.

I liked that the POV changes up in the book so we get a chance to experience everyone’s thoughts and motives, especially helpful when we have characters on the ground, down below, and possessed. I will say Rovena the huntress annoyed me quite a few times. She’s kick ass but also abrasive. Lakyn I feel like we either see what we get, or he’s hiding something from us all.

I’m disappointed that the book ended so abruptly when something was finally unfolding, but I’m curious to see what happens next in the series.  When will it release?
