Court of Demons and Shadows is the final conclusion to the Hidden Courts of the Fae series, and it has it all – action, love, heartbreak, redemption, and finally a chance to rebuild.

The character that had me trying to turn my page but there were no more pages to turn in book 5 really came through in the end. Sometimes people can betray you for personal reasons but their hearts are pure and they do the right thing when it counts.

Tessa’s strength and incredible powers for a half fae are finally explained, and she takes the responsibility to fulfil the prophesy with her entire chest. Doing everything she can to rescue captured beings, find the answers, and fighting her darker side. But it’s not really black and white – there’s not an obvious good side as the hatred between the fae caused the demon race to rise up. Guardian Neil, well, he’s the pillar you can count on! Their relationship has sure come a long way over this series and he has grown from the uptight Guardian to an understanding and open-minded character. These two really helped each other become their best selves.

The epic battles were there and like the entire series, nothing came easy to this group. Sacrifice and loss are part of war but the family they found along the way is everything. The end of the battle and prophesy completion was bittersweet, but the time allowed to have the closure was amazing. That chance for forgiveness and passing on a legacy. Chills. The pure heart in me was hoping for some kind of redemption for the Skath but I suppose this ending was just right. Our heroes got their endings they had longed for the entire fight, and Tessa and her mom got their happy endings which was wonderful. So fans of happy conclusions after a long brutal series will be happy to know this.

One of my favorite aspects of the series as a whole are all the unique magical creatures and the lore. Each book introduces new characters and expands the world, and I love how in the end we have so many different types of fae beings. The best thing about fantasy is the lore is endless and the possibilities of characters is so wide. I met types of characters I have never seen in other books, and that is just brilliant story building.
