Author Interview
At what point did you decide to be an author, and what was your path to publication?
I’ve always loved books, but the writing really grew out of my tarot career. In 2020, while bored at home, I decided to channel my past lives. It was meant to simply pass the time. But what was revealed was so incredible that I knew I needed to share these unique stories, and it’s been such fun writing and crafting them. Arcanum is a historical, time-traveling romance which is a Netflix series waiting to happen! That’s my ultimate goal. I decided to self-publish when I learned how complicated and tricky the publishing industry is! Only the “top ten” books get marketing budgets, and small authors like me don’t have a chance. I decided to publish the book on my own, and devote time and resources to promoting it myself on social media, podcasts, etc. I also didn’t want to wait years for the series to be published.
What do you do when a new idea jumps out at you while you’re still working on a book?
It happens quite often and I simply figure out a way to weave it into the story.
Who is your favorite character to write, and why is that person your favorite?
I adore Max. He is irreverent and confident and doesn’t give a damn about what anyone thinks. If picking a favorite character would be like picking a favorite child, which character seems to be the most demanding of your attention and detail as a writer? Since there is no such thing as a favorite child, I would have to say there is no such thing as a favorite character. But the most demanding to write is Ken. The villain is always a tricky dance to write well.
Describe your writing process. Do you outline, plot, and plan, or is your writing more organic?
Since I channeled all the content already, I just sit down and start typing. I did have someone create outlines from the 40+ hours of recorded video content I have from 2020 so that does help keep the storylines fresh.
What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?
I love series which is probably why I am creating my book series, Arcanum. The Shogun series by James Clavell, the Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum, and Harry Potter series is always a favorite.
Tell us what you enjoy most about writing Paranormal, historical fiction.
I still don’t really enjoy writing, but I have this insatiable drive to share these stories! Fortunately, I am a disciplined person so I can push past the excuses to procrastinate and get myself to do it. But if I were to select one thing I like most it is how fast time goes by when I am writing. It’s as if I enter some sort of time warp.
What have you found to be most challenging about writing in paranormal, historical fiction?
Because the past lives take place all throughout human history, the most challenging aspect is the research into the era in which my story takes place. But I am a history buff so it’s not too painful!
Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in your jobs/education in your writing?
I was a professional wine taster and educator for many years and that focus increased my intuitive abilities which eventually led to the creation of the Arcanum series.
Do you identify with your main character, or did you create a character that is your opposite?
Absolutely! The modern-day character, Sarah, has elements of me, but she’s not me. She’s the CEO and founder of her own fragrance company, who looks on the surface to ‘have it all’ but is struggling all the same. She’s creative, sassy, and outspoken, and a great friend.
Describe the book or series in 10 words or less for people just learning about it.
A love story where happily ever after takes more than one lifetime.
Is there anything you would like people to take away from your book?
Firstly, I want people to be thoroughly entertained by the books. Secondly, if readers begin to consider past lives and soulmates than that would make me very happy!
Do you have any odd (writing) habits?
I channel the story using tarot cards, so I feel that qualifies as odd!
What has been the toughest criticism you have received as an author? What has been the best compliment?
My toughest criticism is the vocabulary is too advanced. My best compliment is the sheer enthusiasm and excitement from my family and friends.
Share some advice for aspiring authors. What advice would you give to your younger self?
If you are an aspiring author, just do it. Sit down and start writing. Or turn on your voice memo app and speak the story into being first. But get the story out of you and into the world.
What is your favorite line from your book?
Sorry, I am not a ‘favorites’ kind of person.
Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you deal with it?
Since I use the tarot to illuminate details and nuance’s I never suffer from writer’s block.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
My primary career is a intuitive channeler with a global clientele. In my downtime, I am active in many different sports and past times. Time with my loved ones is my favorite kind of day.
