At what point did you decide to be an author, and what was your path to publication?
Writing became another part of the same independent creative path I was already building through music, interviews, events, and media. I wanted to create stories rooted in culture I understand and own the work from the beginning. That led me to independently publish Sdot and the Hidden Leaf through Smoking With Sdot LLC and distribute it through Amazon KDP. I like learning the business side as much as the creative side, so publishing independently gave me a chance to understand the whole process instead of only writing the manuscript.
Describe your writing process. Do you outline, plot, and plan, or is your writing more organic?
It is a mix of both. I usually begin with the world, the central situation, and the personalities involved, then I let some of the character interactions develop organically. Once I know where the pressure and conflict are headed, I become more structured about making sure one decision leads naturally into the next. I like stories where situations keep escalating, so I am always thinking about cause and effect: what did this character choose, what consequence does that create, and how does that force the next decision?
Tell us what you enjoy most about writing your genre.
I enjoy being able to mix cannabis culture, humor, relationships, hustle, ambition, loyalty, bad decisions, and real consequences in the same story. Cannabis is often treated either as a joke or as something purely dark and criminal. I wanted to write in the space between those extremes and show people laughing, building relationships, chasing opportunities, making mistakes, and dealing with pressure at the same time. I also enjoy writing characters who can be funny in one scene and completely serious in the next because that feels more like real life.
Do you identify with your main character, or did you create a character that is your opposite?
There are pieces of my perspective in Sdot, especially the independent mindset, creativity, ambition, and the way he thinks about opportunity, but he is still a fictional character making his own choices. What interests me most is putting a character in situations where confidence alone is not enough. As the pressure grows, he has to become more strategic, decide who he can trust, and deal with consequences he could not see coming at the beginning.
Describe the book or series in 10 words or less for people just learning about it.
Cannabis, comedy, hustle, relationships, loyalty, opportunity, rivalry, money, consequences.
Is there anything you would like people to take away from your book?
At its core, I want readers to think about choices and consequences. One decision can look small in the moment and still open the door to something much bigger. I also want readers to see that cannabis culture is not one-dimensional. There are legal businesses, underground pressures, relationships, humor, competition, ambition, and people trying to figure out where they fit. The story is meant to entertain first, but underneath that I want readers thinking about trust, ownership, loyalty, survival, and what happens when opportunity and risk start looking almost identical.
