Apparently, life doesn't end when you get married. When a couple freezes to death on a fifty degree day, Cassie is called in to investigate. The couple ran a daycare out of their home, making preschoolers the key witnesses and even the prime suspects. Two of those preschoolers are Cassie's youngest siblings, suggesting conditions at home are worse than she feared. As Cassie struggles to care for her family, she must face the truth about her mother's slide into depression, which seems to be taking the entire town with it. Then Cassie, too, is attacked by the supernatural cold. She has to think fast to survive, and her actions cause a rift between her and her husband. No, life doesn't end after marriage. All hell can break loose at any time.

Julie Review Avatar Julie’s Review:

I am a huge fan of this type of urban fantasy adventure stories. Something terrible and scary is happening, and the police department turns to the paranormal investigator for help. But this trouble is so much bigger than Cassie expected.

We have unknown beasties, more magic than the town knew existed, and very special (and concerning) abilities. The big bad causing the chaos is related to something surprising, and the overall situation is quite sad. Sometimes people have to make difficult decisions for the good of many.

I did like how there were new creatures in this book that we haven’t encountered in previous books. Not new to those of us who read fantasy genre often, but they were certainly new and surprising to Cassie, and that gave the book a fresh and exciting feel.

I enjoyed the audiobook a lot. I’ve listened to this narrator before and I like her voices and tone.

Frozen (Cassie Scot #7) is a welcome continuation of the story we thought was done, and hopefully, there will be more one day. I enjoy the characters and world, and there is a lot more room in Cassie’s character development and that of her siblings. I especially hope to see some stories from the next oldest sister.

This is the 7th book in the world but really the 5th book in Cassie’s story. The actual 5 and 6 in the series were spin-offs featuring Cassie’s friends. I read them all. I even reviewed them all on this blog. You can read them all here:

Cassie Scot #1 (Paranormal Detective)

Cassie Scot #2 – Secrets and Lies

Cassie Scot #3 – Mind Games

Cassie Scot #4 – Stolen Dreams
